Town probe racist chanting claims.

POLICE and Town officials are investigating claims of anti-Semitic chanting at Saturday's big derby match.

Two fans have complained to the club about alleged chants made by Town fans and directed at their Leeds United opponents.

Now Town have confirmed they are investigating claims Leeds United supporters were subject to anti-Semitic chants during the John Smith's Stadium meeting between the sides.

The club said they were investigating the matter with their safety officer and with local police.

A spokesman said: "We received two separate complaints and these will be investigated thoroughly, as we do with all complaints."

West Yorkshire Police said nothing had been brought to their attention during the event but they had been notified of the complaints by Town.

They said they would work closely with the club to establish whether chanting of a "racial" nature had taken place.

Earlier, police had praised the majority of fans for their behaviour. There were only four arrests during a game which attracted a 20,000 crowd to Huddersfield.

There have been several incidents of anti-Semitic behaviour at or around football matches in recent weeks.

West Ham United banned a seasonticket holder after he was arrested and cautioned for making an anti-Semitic gesture during a match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas has also called for Uefa to investigate alleged anti-Semitic chanting during a match between Spurs and Lazio at Rome's Stadio Olimpico last month.
