Town needs a new by-pass.

A NEW by-pass is needed for Nuneaton to help improve air quality, says a borough councillor.

Jim Foster, the Conservative member for St Nicolas, told the cabinet that he was concerned about health levels, caused by the number of vehicles travelling through the north-east of the town.

"This is a big issue regarding the proposed Borough Plan, in which more houses designated for my ward would increase the levels of traffic," he said. "There are problems because of the access across the railway bridge and this could be solved by a new by-pass to link up with the island near the Long Shoot.

"I know we are talking about many millions of pounds but I must stress that our air quality and transport issues are vitally important."
