Towering above the rest.

In other banking news, the tallest building in Arkansas will be getting a new name.

That shouldn't be much of a surprise because the tallest build i nginArkansas at 40 stories or 547 feet is the Metropolitan National Bank Tower.

And as everyone surely knows by now, Simmons First National Corp. bought Metropolitan National Bank out of bankruptcy last year.

The signage won't change until after "transition weekend" or "conversion weekend" starting March 21, says Simmons First spokeswoman Amy Johnson. That's when the two banking systems are to be fully integrated and the former Metropolitan Bank properties are renamed.

The building, completed in 1986, started life as the Capitol Tower, then the TCBY Tower and then Metropolitan, sometime around 2004.

Johnson said the exact name--Simmons Tower, Simmons First Tower--hasn't yet been determined but it will bear the Simmons name in some form.

"We're very excited about this opportunity and about the opportunity to rebrand the tower name," Johnson said.
