A showcase event which will promote Wales' pounds 2.5bn tourism industry this autumn has attracted major sponsorship deals from public and private sectors. The National Tourism Awards for Wales is a biennial event, which attracts key audiences, including key decision-makers from the UK and international tourism industries.

The gala awards, which will culminate the three days of events and activities of the Showcase Wales exhibition, will be attended by more than 500 people and will be hosted by BBC newsreader Huw Edwards on October 20.

Backers of the event include owners of Cardiff International Airport, HSBC, Countryside Council for Wales, Reed Travel Exhibitions, Visit Britain, Uwic, Tourism Training Forum for Wales and WDA (True Taste).

Chairman of the Wales Tourist Board Philip Evans said, 'Sponsors are becoming very savvy to the benefits of being associated with Wales' premier tourism event.

'With 80% of the sponsorship opportunities already sold, we are confident that this year's event is going to be bigger and better.'

HSBC is the latest sponsor to come on board by securing the 'golf as it should be' category award.

John Lloyd-Jones, public relations manager at HSBC, said, 'We are very excited to be involved in this prestigious event, especially as the Ryder Cup is coming to Wales in 2010 and tourism plays such an important part in the economy of Wales.

'We look forward to working alongside some of the top businesses in Wales and are pleased that our support will help the Wales Tourist Board promote excellence in the industry and raise its global profile even further.'
