Total sales of PlayStation 3 in Japan top 1 mil., lagging behind Wii.

TOKYO, July 18 Kyodo

Cumulative sales of the PlayStation 3 game console in Japan have topped 1 million but still lag far behind those of the Wii console, according to a survey released by a game magazine publisher Wednesday.

As of last Sunday, the number of PlayStation 3 consoles sold in Japan since Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. put them on sale last November stood at 1,010,492 units, Enterbrain Inc. said.

Nintendo Co.'s Wii console, released in December, sold a total of about 2,910,000 units through July 8.

Total sales of Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox360 since December 2005 came to only about 420,000 units.
