Toshiba and Microsoft Collaborated to Develop Windows Vista([TM]) Inspired Notebooks to Offer Customers the Ultimate Mobile Computing Experience

NEW YORK -- Toshiba's Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today announced the availability of next-generation notebook computers featuring the Windows Vista([TM]) operating system, including Toshiba's Portege notebook. To ensure seamless integration, Toshiba and Microsoft collaborated for more than two years to advance mobile hardware designs and showcase Windows Vista([TM]) innovations, which are implemented on the Portege R400.

Windows Vista provides state-of-the-art features designed to enhance the overall performance and productivity of the personal computer and make the digital lifestyle easier, safer, more entertaining and better connected.

"Toshiba is excited to be a participating partner with Microsoft in the Windows Vista and 2007 Microsoft Office System launch," said Hisatsugu Nonaka, president and CEO for the Personal Computer and Network Company, Toshiba Corporation. "The new features in Windows Vista and Toshiba's innovative notebook computers offer consumers increased productivity and the opportunity to create, manage and share information and experiences like never before."

"We chose to collaborate with Toshiba based on our mutual vision and a shared commitment to advance the state-of-the-art in mobile computing by delivering hardware and software innovations that enrich our customer's lives," said Steve Ballmer, CEO, Microsoft Corporation. "The result of this great collaboration is the Toshiba Portege R400, a notebook computer that takes full advantage of the new mobile PC technologies in Windows Vista."

As Toshiba's signature notebook computer, the Portege R400 is a statement of both technology and style that incorporates two world's first technologies and a wide range of communications technologies such as Verizon's EV-DO technology1, Wi-Fi([R]), Ethernet and Bluetooth([R]), to fully realize the concept of "anytime and anywhere" computing.

Toshiba's Portege R400 is the world's first notebook computer to incorporate Microsoft's Active Notifications, which allows users the ability to synchronize their e-mail inbox and calendar events, whether the notebook is on or in suspend mode. These notifications can be viewed on the Toshiba "Edge" display which serves as a Personal Information Assistant. This functionality is a direct result of the integration of Windows Vista([TM]).
