Top head in fraud probe.

Byline: By ROD CHAYTOR

A SUPERHEAD made a Dame for turning around a failing school is being investigated by police over allegations of fraud.

Maureen Brennan is alleged to have fiddled records to make Hillcrest School and Community College in Netherton, West Mids, look more successful.

The probe follows a Dudley council education welfare service report which found "serious problems in recording attendance".

Police Economic Crime Team officers are investigating accusations that registers were altered to show pupils in school when they were not.

They would not reveal why that triggered a fraud probe but stressed: "No one has been arrested."

Dame Maureen was unavailable for comment at her home in Hammerwich, Staffs. Her husband said: "We have both been asked not to speak by our solicitor till this is all over."
