Top doc bags award for ADHD audit.

A WARWICKSHIRE doctor has earned a top award for his research on adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder.

Specialist psychiatrist Dr Hardeep Uppal claimed the prize for his audit of patients in north Warwickshire, carried out with colleague Dr Afzal Javed.

It showed there was a need for more specific services to help people in the region.

ADHD is a behavioural disorder which causes inattention, impulsiveness and hyperactivity and is though to affect up to one in ten UK school children.

Most will continue to suffer into adolescence and adulthood but the symptoms are hard to define as there has been a lack of research into this area.

Rachel Newson, chief executive of Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, said: "I'm very pleased about the award Dr Uppal has received and the subsequent work this has led to. It is important that we continue to develop our understanding of this condition, which can lead to people having severely disrupted lives. This can only be a positive for everyone connected with ADHD."
