Top cargo airline starts direct Bahrain flights.
MANAMA: Europe's largest all-cargo airline Cargolux has launched direct flights to Bahrain.
Making its first landing at Bahrain International Airport (BIA) on Thursday, the new carrier has become the 15th cargo airline operating to the kingdom.
Cargolux will be transporting spare parts, machinery, perishables, food and consumer goods that include textiles from the US and the European markets, said a statement by the Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the operator of BIA.
BAC cargo manager Robert Mills said Cargolux's entry was significant as the company sought to solidify BIA's position as a competitive cargo hub, boost global connectivity and enhance product offering.
"It is a significant addition to our expanding airline portfolio which we will continue to grow in line with the future aviation trends and demands," Mr Mills added.
Cargolux regional manager for the Middle East Sharon Vaz Arab said the addition of Bahrain to the airline's global network opens up significant opportunities resulting from the kingdom's thriving economy.
Cargolux's worldwide network covers up to 90 destinations, including many countries in the region, some of which are served on scheduled flights.
