Top Gear.

Top Gear (BBC Two, tomorrow, 8pm) If you believe what you read in some papers, Jeremy Clarkson is the spawn of Satan whose mission is to bring down Western civilisation as we know it.

Many of his critics never let a little thing like context or JC's typically barbed sense of humour get in the way of a good story, so whether he's making an incendiary comment on The One Show or allegedly setting Anglo-Indian relations back a few decades on this series, you can bet the easily offended will be ready to jam the BBC's switchboard at the drop of a hat.

Of course, there is an alternative for the easily annoyed: it's called an 'off' button, but where's the fun in that? After all, the sight of Messrs Clarkson, May and Hammond putting supercars through their paces in Italy is far more fun. Some may be offended by gas-guzzling beasts like the 691bhp Lamborghini Aventador, McLaren's hi-tech MP4-12C, and Blighty's aptly named Noble M600, so if you are you won't want to watch this new series; try Call The Midwife or Wild At Heart on the other channels instead.

For the rest of us, settle back and witness this supercharged answer to Last Of The Summer Wine.

Instead of picturesque Yorkshire streets, the latterday Compo, Clegg and Foggy (aka Jeremy, James and Richard) will be trying out a high-speed testing ground so vast it can be seen from space. They will also be taking a nerve-wracking drive in Rome before reaching its conclusion with a timed challenge against the Stig at the Imola circuit. Plus, there's a look at some of 2012's most exciting cars, and Jeremy will be grilling a celebrity guest who takes the wheel of the Reasonably Priced Car.
