Top GCC badminton players for Indian Club event.

THE Indian Club is conducting the Indian Club-GCC Open Badminton Tournament 2011 at its premises starting on Wednesday.

Travelex-Western Union has come up as the title sponsors of this three-day event, which promises to feature some of the GCC region's best badminton players.

Over 100 players from the GCC are expected to participate in this three-day event, and the organisers have confirmed that they have already started receiving entries from Qatar and the UAE.

A total prize money of $2,225 is up for grabs in the tournament, to be held in association with the Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation.

The tournament has seven events - Men's Singles, Men's Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Veterans' doubles, Under-19 Boys Singles, Under-19 Boys Doubles and Under-19 Girls Doubles.

Veterans' doubles is open to men above the age of 45. All GCC nationals and residents are eligible to participate in the tournament.

Tournament details and sponsorship were confirmed and agreed upon by Travelex Bahrain remittance manager Biju Jacob during a meeting held with Indian Club executive committee members and tournament organisers.

A sports enthusiast himself, Jacob said Travelex Bahrain, in order to promote sports in Bahrain, endeavours to support a very wide range of sporting events to reach all areas of Bahrain and all sectors of the community.

He added that they are proud to be associated with the Indian Club as the title sponsors of this year's tournament.

GCC residents who wish to participate may write in to icgcc2011@gmail.com requesting for entry forms.

Last date for receipt of completed entries is tomorrow. The completed entries may be mailed to icgcc2011@gmail.com. The tournament draws will be published latest by December 26.

Match timings are from 6pm until 10.30pm on December 28 and 29, while the finals will be held on December 30 from 10am onwards.
