Top FLW anglers try netting part of $1.5m.

Legendary names in fishing such as Larry Nixon, George Cochran, Jay Yelas, Scott Suggs and Jimmy Houston are schedule to compete when the FLW Tour brings the $1.5 million Wal-Mart Open to Beaver Lake in northwest Arkansas in mid-May.

The event will be nationally televised and is the fourth stop on the $9.5 million Tour. Up to 400 anglers from 30 states, Japan, Australia and Italy are expected to compete for the top award of $200,000 cash in the Pro Division and $20,000 in the Co-Angler Division. The event runs from May 15-18.

The FLW also will bring a Bass Fishing League event to Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs at the end of May, feature 54 up-and-coming anglers.

For the War-Mart tournament on Beaver Lake, anglers will take off at Prairie Creek Marina near Rogers all four days of the event and weigh in at Prairie Creek Marina on the first two days of competition. The John Q. Hammons Center will play host to the final two days of competition along with a free Family Fun Zone and Outdoor Show from noon to 6 p.m. each day.

The Family Fun Zone features free family fun for area residents, including fishing-themed games and activities for children, Ranger boat simulators, obstacle courses and a trout pond. Sponsors will be giving away free product samples white supplies Last, and the first 300 children through the door May 18 will receive a free rod and reel.

One audience member will win a new Ranger boat during the final weigh-in.

The Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League All American wilt be held in Hot Springs May 29-31 and has a total purse of $I million.

The nationally televised tournament is the championship for the $8.8 million War-Mart BFL tournament trail and will feature 54 boaters and 54 co-anglers who have advanced from more than 30,000 BFL anglers and 20,000 TBF anglers nationwide this year to reach the prestigious event.

Anglers will take off at the Fish Hatchery Ramp all three days of the event and weigh in at Summit Arena. Like the Beaver Lake event, a Family Fun Zone and Outdoor Show at the Hot Springs Convention Center will accompany the daily weigh-ins and wilt open at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 29, and Friday, May 30. On Saturday, May 31, the show will open at noon.
