10. The Lamb Inn, Wilts

THIS charming inn near Salisbury began trading as a public house as early as the 12th Century and retains plenty of its original features, including inglenook fireplaces, flagstone floors and heavy wooden beams. Last summer the Lamb was relaunched by the Scottish Boisdale Restaurant group. All 19 bedrooms (four with four poster beds) are decorated in the Boisdale style - traditional tartan with antique furnishings and paintings, free wi-fi and Neal's Yard toiletries in the bathrooms. Like a dram? The malt whisky menu in the bar is said to be the largest in Wiltshire. There is also an extensive choice of Cuban cigars.
