This periodic report on the use and condition of ecosystems within the United States is compiled by the H. John Heinz III Center for Science, Economics and the Environment, and uses the work of over 150 contributors to track trends, indicators and findings since the first report was issued in 2002. This volume provides separate analyses for coasts and oceans, farmlands, forests, fresh water resources, grasslands and shrublands and urban areas, and documents the environmental risks and existing government strategies for each ecosystem. While this report has been compiled for use by government officials and policymakers at every level of government, it is presented in an easy-to-read style with plenty of photographs so that general audiences can participate in the solving of these ecological issues.
