Tom stays ahead to keep Merit title.

COVENTRY HEARSALL'S Tom Ibbertson retained the Warwickshire Junior Order of Merit title to complete a successful year.

The 16-year-old county boys champion has now reduced his handicap to scratch and made sure of the Merit victory after leading the points chart all season.

The final round was staged off the back tees at West Midlands and Ibbertson needed to stay ahead of his nearest challengers Will Bailey (Walmley), Chris Freeman (Ladbroke Park) and Daniel Lane (Kenilworth).

As it happened, Rugby's Ryan Kowal scored 35 points to collect the 3,000- point top prize with Freeman finishing on 29 and Bailey on 28, to leave Ibbertson still clearly ahead.

Final round: Ryan Kowal (Rugby) 35pts, Rhys Lawrence (Coventry), Jake Scott (Olton), Michael Pell (Olton) 33, Sam Teather (Walmley), Will Smith (Stoneleigh) 31, Louie Pett (The Warwickshire) 30, Chris Freeman (Ladbrook), Kaljit Madahar (Edgbaston) 29, Will Bailey (Walmley), James Matharu (Leamington) 28,Callum Morrow (Oakridge), Rob Bardsley (Moor Hall), Nathan Ray (Maxstoke) 26.
