It's not a good time for Tom Jones or his fans. Following his last-minute cancellation of his April 2 concert in Manila, the Welsh singing legend has also called off his upcoming April 15 concert in Abu Dhabi.
"Due to serious illness in his immediate family, Tom Jones regretfully has to cancel his performance at the du Forum, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi scheduled for Friday 15th April. He extends his deepest apologies to both the fans and organisers, who he is most sad to disappoint. There are no further details at this time," Jones' management said through Abu Dhabi organiser Flash Entertainment.
Jones had already landed in the Philippines ahead of his concert on Saturday before the cancellation was announced.
According to sources quoted by the UK's Daily Mail, Jones' wife Linda is believed to be seriously ill. But the singer's management has denied it.
The Manila cancellation would be Jones' second. His 2010 concert in the Philippine capital was called off due to an acid reflux attack that led to laryngitis.
"I've been wanting to come ever since. I came here once many years ago and the reception was great. [What happened in 2010] was just bad luck. One of the worst things for me is when I have to cancel shows. I hate it because it takes away my strength and I've disappointed a lot of people," he told Philippine news channel InterAksyon .
Jones, best known for hits such as It's Not Unusual , What's New Pussycat and She's a Lady , last performed in Abu Dhabi in 2013.
