Tolona Invests 2 Million [pounds] In The UK Pizza Business

Tolona Pizza Products announced major expansion plans earlier this year to strengthen its position as the specialist in the pizza business, and lead the way into the 1990s.

Tolona, a recent acquisition of McCain, has established itself as a successful manufacturer of consistent, top quality, "American-style" crusts. The company also supplies full preparation kits, ovens and accessories. In fact, it offers everything a catering or retail outlet would need to make a success of "Real Pizza."

This supply of fine, reliable products backed by a wealth of expertise and set-up advice has given rise to their already strong position in the marketplace.

The United Kingdom pizza market continues to flourish and grow, and Tolona has identified its future potential. As Tolona's managing director, Don Morris, indicated: "Per head we eat 10 times less pizza in all forms than in the USA, so it follows that we're at least five years behind."

Pizzas are big business, offering good profit opportunities. However, as Morris, pointed out, consumers are becoming more discerning all the time: "As a nation we have been inspired by the concept of resh food, which is why the quality and presentation of the product is so important.

The expansion plan involves an investment of 2 million [pounds] in state-of-the-art equipment to make many more pizza crusts. It also includes:

* Extending the factory to twice the size, for increased capacity.

* New office facilities, for efficient sales back-up and administration.

* An ongoing research and development program to look at new products.

* A substantial addition to the sales force, for comprehensive customer service.

* A massive increase in the overall marketing budget to provide vital customer education and communication.

"Tolona will be expanding the pizza business by looking at new markets," said Morris. "We believe that anyone who sells food, cooked or uncooked, can sell pizza. Our policy is to present consistently good products and support them in every type of food outlet."
