Togadia says use of Allah in yoga is insult to Shiva.
KNOWN for his venomous statements, Vishwa Hindu Parishad ( VHP) leader Praveen Togadia has said that use of word Allah during yoga would not be acceptable to Hindus.
However, Togadia's statement has come when no prominent Muslim organisation or leader has propagated the theory of using the word Allah while performing yoga.
" The use of word Allah during yoga would be an insult to Lord Shiva. The utterance of words ' Om' and the practice of surya namaskar are integral to yoga and hold supreme importance.
Those who are allergic to ' Om' and surya namaskar should live with diseases," he said in Bulandshahr on Sunday.
The working president of the VHP was there to attend a 10- day training camp of the organisation at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj College. He said since yoga is a form of exercise, it keeps people away from diseases.
To recall, Darul Uloom Deoband and many noted Muslim clerics have already agreed to the June 21 yoga session convened by the central government and the Bharatiya Janata Party in the country.
Noted Sunni cleric Khalid
Rashid Firangimahli has also praised yoga.
He said: " We welcome the plan of yoga session across the country.
All we want from the government is to keep it away from religiosity." Even Jamiat- Ulema- e- Hind general secretary Mahmood Madani had said that there is no problem with yoga if it is not linked to any particular religion.
But Togadia's statement is bound to create upheaval in both Hindu and Muslim communities because no one had earlier tried to introduce religion in yoga.
