Toby bounces back for Godiva.

COVENTRY Godiva's men finished seventh in the second round of the Birmingham Cross Country League at Cheltenham's Pittville Park.

Toby Spencer, who had to drop out of the first round with blisters, finished runner-up, just five seconds behind the host club's Graham Rush, with close packing from Chris Bannon (40), Club captain Matt Lole (48), Scott Hazell (53), Tom Madden (66) and Joe McLeod (101) to complete the team.

They remain 15th in division One but have two rounds left to pull clear of the relegation zone, starting with a home fixture at Coundon Park on January 16.

The club only managed to field two runners in the Midland Ladies event at Birmingham's Cofton Park. Paula Richardson found the undulating course tough going but managed a credible 18th overall and third master while Zarinda Batasone maintained her 100 per cent appearance record this term.

Godiva's youngsters made an impact on the West Midlands Young Athletes cross country at Warley Woods where Alex Jolly finished second at under-17 level - just five seconds behind Rugby & Northampton's Joshua Lay, while Jake Minshull claimed the under-13 honours, four seconds clear of another Rugby runner, Louis Buttrick.
