To the test; Electric corkscrews.

Don't struggle to pull out corks this Christmas by going electric

Electric wine opener, pounds 24.95 (www.scottsofstow.co.uk, 0844 482 2800)

EASY to handle and does the job quickly and efficiently. Great value for money. Button is quite large so up and down positions are a comfortable distance apart. Hard to position exactly right over the cork as it's black and you can't see through to the bottle. Feels flimsy. 7/10

Rechargeable electric corkscrew with thermometer, pounds 49.99 (www.drinkstuff.com, 0845 3133 352)

ITS stylish looks come at a price. Has a built in infrared thermometer which reads the wine temperature through the bottle and also the room temperature so you can be sure your wine is right to drink. Not very easy to handle. 8/10

Electric corkscrew deluxe, pounds 33.99 (www.drinkstuff.com, 0845 3133352)

COMES in a stylish matt black finish. Looks really coo when it's charging up as it lights up with a blue light. However, it is quite a bit slower to remove the cork than the others electric corkscrews on test and it also feels slightly flimsy. The worst of the ones tested. 6/10

Rechargeable corkscrew by Nscessity, pounds 24.99 (www.johnlewis.com, 0845 604 9049)

EASY to handle and quick. Its transparent lower shell makes it easy to line up over the cork properly and you can clearly see when the cork is out. It also lights up when you're using it. The foil cutter is integrated in the top. The clear winner at a great price. 10/10

Peugeot Ellis rechargeable, pounds 99 (www.johnlewis.com, 0845 604 9049)

MADE of stylish stainless steel and feels more substantial than any of the others making it easier to hold steady over the bottle. The up and down buttons are very close together making it easy to slip between them and there's no foil cutter. Comes in a stylish case. 8/10

Oz Clarke Electric Corkscrew, pounds 14.99 (www.amazon.co.uk)

SLEEK in black and silver. The buttons are comfortable to use and it works quickly and smoothly. Feels comfortable in the hand. Small, neat charging stand makes it perfect for tucking away in a corner of your kitchen but it looks so good you will want to show it off. 9/10
