To see you nice after cold, Bruce.

Byline: Halina Watts

SIR Bruce Forsyth bravely hosted last night's Strictly Come Dancing semi-final after illness forced him to pull out of rehearsals.

The veteran, 82, arrived at BBC1's studios on Friday to prepare lines and write gags - then went home after complaining of a head cold. But he was determined to join co-host Tess Daly at the semi and even joked about his croaky voice during last night's programme.

He quipped to the audience, which included Cheryl Cole: "Don't you think my voice sounds sexier?" Brucie also laughed off a mistaken claim that Denise Van Outen scored just eight points in last week's dances.

He said: "My only defence is I've had flu this week. So has Len, so has Bruno. Craig doesn't get anything."

Bosses were so worried Bruce would miss last night's semi that they had prepared to draft in the results show host Claudia Winkleman to take over from him.
