To San Francisco On The A 380
As we board the British Airways operated A380 from Heathrow London to San Francisco we are stunned at the sheer space inside. The main deck is the widest of any aircraft and 50.8cm (20") wider than the Boeing 747 and this was more apparent as we had flown the 777 from Delhi into London on the first leg of the journey. From March 29, 2015, British Airways is operating its flagship A380 aircraft between London and San Francisco, and we are travelling on the inaugural flight. British airways operates a double daily service to the City on the Bay, with five of these flights moving on to the A380 aircraft. The other nine weekly services continue to be served by a 747.
The A380 is also apparently the only commercial aircraft offering two full-length (wide-body) decks and two Club World cabins--both on the main and on the upper deck. In all it makes for 97 seats (44 main deck and 53 upper deck) for Club World passengers. As I figure out my aisle seat and tuck away my handbag in preparation for take-off, I realise the overhead power-assisted storage bins are much larger and easier to operate even for a tiny person like me!
I fiddle around with the control buttons for seats and find them really simple to operate. The seat converts into 6ft fully flat bed, offering a Z position for increased comfort as well. A privacy screen shoots up between the seats at the flick of a button. The Airbus A380 is a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine jet airliner making it the quietest in the skies. So smooth was this long journey that I slept like a baby!
GOOD TO KNOW The A380 Schedule: The British Airways' A380 aircraft has flights between London Heathrow, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Singapore, Washington and Miami (starting 25 October 2015).
