Titans Leigh Arm themselves with a bagful of goals.
Byline: LUCOZADE POWERLEAGUE GAME OF THE WEEK LEIGH ARMS V CRAIG'S TEAM
Leigh Arms | THIS week's Lucozade Powerleague write-up features a Clash of the Titans Monday Night League epic, featuring Leigh Arms and Craig's Team.
Both teams named strong squads with the only absentee being Patrick Carroll for Leigh Arms who failed a late fitness test.
The game started lively with Craig's Team having the better share of possession in the opening stages.
Leigh Arms shrugged off a sluggish start and pulled one back through Mark James who finished clinically with the outside of his left foot before Andrew Mcguiness equalised to make the score 3-3. For the remainder of the half it was end to end with David Sharkey adding a few goals to his name for Craig's Team. Leigh Arms' captain Michael Carroll was also on the score sheet bagging a hat trick as the teams went in at half time all square at 7-7. The second half began with Leigh Arms left blushing, as a tackle on the edge of the box found its way into the back of the net with the opposition striker rightfully looking sheepish about claiming the goal.
The moment of the match came as Leigh Arms lost possession high up the field and were quickly countered by Craig's team.
As the striker honed in on goal all that was required was a neat finish past the keeper, but with team-mates either side of him, there was also the option to square it.
Whether it was the fact he had too many options to choose from, or the outstanding save from Leigh Arms goalkeeper Robert O' Brien, the striker fluffed his big chance.
The keeper adjusted his feet ready for it and with the goal at his mercy the striker slotted the ball into the corner only for O' Brien to make an audacious save.
David Sharkey just about edged out seven goal man Mark James for the Man of the Match award scoring nine of his team's 13 goals.
It was Leigh Arms however that came away with an 18-13 victory.
