Tipper Gore Tops National Christmas Tree With GE Lighting-Designed Star

WASHINGTON, Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Mrs. Tipper Gore will today at approximately 10 a.m. put the crowning GE Lighting-designed-and-donated star atop the 1996 National Christmas Tree, located on the Ellipse across from the White House. This annual tree-topping event is the precursor to the Thursday, Dec. 5, lighting of the National Christmas Tree by President Clinton.

Designed by GE's Kathy Presciano, a lighting design specialist at the renowned "Lighting Institute" at GE Lighting's world headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio, the tree topper is a 42-inch, hand-crafted, three-dimensional illuminated star embellished with gold metalwork-like detailing.

Assisting Mrs. Gore in the traditional tree-topping ceremony this morning is Clevelander John Betchkal, president of the National Christmas Pageant of Peace.
