MUSCAT | Folks, itEoe1/4aos once again time for the Times of Oman quiz! MuscatEoe1/4aos favourite event, the Times of Oman Open Quiz contest is slated for Friday, April 23, 2010.

The 14th edition of the Times of Oman Open Quiz contest will have OmanEoe1/4aos favourite quizmaster, Giri Eoe1/4Y[pounds sterling]PickbrainEoe1/4ao Balasubramaniam, at the helm.

According to Ahmed Essa Al Zedjali, CEO and Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Times of Oman, the TOO Open Quiz has taken mind-sport to a new level, making it exciting and accessible to everyone.

Eoe1/4EoThe TOO Open Quiz has grown to be a very special event for the people of Oman. Each year it gets better and is eagerly looked forward to. Other than being exciting, it is also an educational entertainment. It nurtures the spirit of competition among school children and instils in them the drive to expand their knowledge boundaries. As a media house we believe it is our duty to host more such intellectually-motivating contests,Eoe1/4A[yen] he says.

The quizmaster is already feeling energised about the event.

Eoe1/4EoTo me quizzing in Muscat is like IPL (Indian Premier League), it gets bigger and better with every passing year,Eoe1/4A[yen] Giri said talking to Times of Oman.

The prelims will be conducted on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Indian School, Al Ghubra. The finalists will face the challenge on April 23, 2010 at City Amphitheatre, Qurum at 7.30pm.

Selection process

Eoe1/4EoBroad format of selection process is the same, i.e., we do a school special and then the open quiz,Eoe1/4A[yen] said Giri.

The entry forms will be published from Saturday in Times of Oman.

Plans are on to make the forms available in the websites of Times of Oman and Al Shabiba and

The rules for enrolling to participate remain the same. Teams from companies, clubs, schools, colleges, families as well as an assorted set of any three individuals can participate. Each team must comprise three participants. Family teams (direct family only) and school teams (from any class) will be charged RO6 for entry into the contest. Corporate teams (recognised corporations) and a general group of three will be charged RO9.

A team is allowed to make one substitution. The name of the reserve is to be mentioned in the entry form. Substitution cannot be made when the quiz is in progress.

The bag of bounty for guessing it right has really grown over the years and those participating this year will win gifts worth thousands of rials. Audience prizes will also be much more than the previous years.

Entry forms of school students should be stamped with the school seal to gain entry into school team category, or else they will be considered as open teams.

Last date for submitting the quiz entry forms is April 17, 2010.
