Time to pay up; RECORD View.

IT DEFIES belief that equal pay rows continue nearly 50 years after the law was changed.

Women are still fighting for the simple right to be valued in the same way as men in similar roles.

In Glasgow, the council could be hit by a PS500million bill after losing a particularly bitter dispute.

The financial damage is alarming but it should never have got this far.

The new decision strikes down a deal from 2007, when Labour ran the city.

It's thought the pay gap between men and women in similar low-paid jobs could be as high as PS5000 a year.

The council now face an avalanche of claims.

Is it too much to ask that women get the pay they deserve before the 50th anniversary of the 1970 Equal Pay Act?
