Time stands still.. back in a second.

The world "gained" one second this morning - because Earth has been turning too slowly.

Friction from winds and tides can vary the planet's rotation, which is measured by stars' positions.

And today's start was delayed to let scientists' atomic clocks catch up with astronomical time.
