Tiger Woods pleads for patience.

Tiger Woods remains confident he's on course to dominate the game once again despite a disastrous display at the Wells Fargo Championship that saw him miss just the eighth cut of his career.

The 14-time Major champion went into the Quail Hollow event claiming he had overcome last month's ball-striking problems that resulted in his worst performance at the Masters since he turned professional in 1996.

However, yet again he found his old habits creeping back into his swing as the American ace shot a second round one-over par 73 for an even-par total of 144 - one shot over the cut line.

A perhaps delusional Woods, though, refused to hit the panic button, adamant the changes coach Sean Foley had made to his swing were on the verge of catapulting him back to the top of the rankings.

"With Butch [Harmon] it took me two years and with Hank [Haney] it took me almost two years before old patterns are out," said the world No.7, who finished 12 shots behind overnight leader Nick Watney. "It takes hundreds of thousands if not millions of golf balls, but eventually it comes around. I've had my share of successes, and I know it's coming."

Though Woods snapped a two-and-a-half-year victory drought on the PGA Tour at Bay Hill in March, it's been a case of one step forward, two steps back as he's failed to contend since.

The 36-year-old totalled 33 putts in the second round in North Carolina, frequently failing to reach the hole with his first attempt on the green. And he said: "It all has to do with my set-up. If I get over the golf ball and I feel uncomfortable, I hit it great.

"It's just that I get out there and I want to get comfortable, and I follow my old stuff, and I hit it awful.

"All the shots I got uncomfortable on, I just said I'm going to get really uncomfortable and make it feel as bad as it possibly could, and I striped it."

Asked to sum up his feelings after a dismal week, Woods replied: "Well, it's frustration. I finished, what, 12 back of the lead, and I'm not playing the weekend where I have a chance to compete for a title.

"I've missed my share of cuts in the past, and they don't feel good."
