Thurston keeps MWL perfection intact.

Byline: PREP ROUNDUP The Register-Guard

Kyle Hoover was 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs to lead visiting Thurston to an 11-0 victory against North Eugene in a five-inning Midwestern League game.

Matt Myrmo hit a solo home run in the third inning and Chris Reed allowed only two hits for the Colts, who are unbeaten in league play. Skip Spencer and Brooks Chapman each had two hits for Thurston.

Springfield 5, Churchill 1: Alejandro Camarena was 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the host Millers to the win.

Matt Fritz was 2-for-2 for Springfield, which scored three runs in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie.

Willamette 17, Marshfield 5: Nick Jernberg was 2-for-2 with a solo home run and a two-RBI double to lead the Wolverines to the road victory in six innings.

Jernberg reached base in all five plate appearances, and teammate Kenny Gebhardt reached in all four of his, scoring four runs.

David Busenbark had two hits and four RBIs for Willamette.

Sky-Em League baseball

Pleasant Hill 4, Elmira 3: Cal Lowell led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk and eventually scored the game-winning run on an error.

Kody Bryant led Elmira with two hits.

Junction City 9, La Pine 8: Tigers left fielder Brad Garrigus was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and threw out the potential tying run at the plate in the top of the seventh inning to end the game.

Garrigus threw out Ricky Dinger, who was trying to score on Beau Price's single. Kyle Pickering had a three-run homer for the Hawks.

PacWest Conference baseball

Waldport 7, Creswell 5: Keith Ballentine hit a grand slam in the fourth inning and Wally Grader struck out 10 to lead the Irish to the win.

Chris Fisher, Kyle Marcum and Larry McElroy had two hits each for Waldport. Kyle Kuhnhausen was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Ryan Kovnovsky had two hits for Creswell.

Harrisburg 4, Toledo 3: Tyler Luby had two hits and two RBIs, and teammate Austin Strutz had two hits and scored twice to lead the Eagles to the road win.

District 3 baseball

Lowell 11, Siletz Valley 2: Teo Flack and Zac Cardwell each had two hits, and Daniel Casarez struck out eight batters in the final four innings to lead the Red Devils to the road win.

Midwestern League softball

North Eugene 7, Thurston 5: Carly Larson and Kristen DeHaven each had three hits to lead the visiting Highlanders to the win.

Megan Harvey had two hits and a game-high two RBIs for North Eugene.

Churchill 11, Springfield 3: Jessica Plummer, Ashley Mathers and Melissa Weber each had two hits to lead the Lancers to the home win.

Marshfield 9, Willamette 1: Brittany Young was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, and she struck out five in the complete-game victory for the host Pirates.

Brianna George had two hits, two RBIs and scored three runs, and Megan Meader had two hits and scored twice for Marshfield.

Sky-Em League softball

Elmira 13, Pleasant Hill 0: Danielle Upton was 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and three RBIs to lead the host Falcons to the victory in five innings.

Allison Boytz gave up only two hits in the victory, and Elmira's defense turned two double plays.

Sisters 19, Cottage Grove 12: Jen Sneva was 3-for-4 with three walks for the Outlaws, who scored seven runs in the top of the 10th inning.

Samantha Bennett had two hits and scored twice, and Miranda Rust had two RBIs for the Lions.

PacWest Conference softball

Creswell 21, Waldport 5: Shelby Spence was 4-for-6 with three RBIs to lead the Bulldogs to the six-inning victory on the road.

Carly Taylor was 3-for-5 with four RBIs, and Katie Tigue was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Creswell.

Nonleague softball

Newport 9, Marist 8: Katie Anderson had a grand slam to cap a six-run seventh inning to lead the Cubs to the road win, snapping the Spartans' 41-game winning streak.

Newport scored two runs in the fourth inning, which broke a streak of 115 scoreless innings pitched by Marist's Nyree White.

White had a home run and a double. Teammates Kayla Braud, Dani Gehrke and Alison Behrends also had two hits each.

Boys golf

Freshman Sulman Raza finished on top for the third time in four tournaments to lead South Eugene to a victory at a Southwest Conference tournament at Grants Pass Golf Club.

Raza shot a 71 to lead the Axemen to a 304 total and a 32-stroke victory over Sheldon. Bobby Monaco (75) and Cole Weinhold (78) capped the top-three sweep for the Axemen.

Nate Krause and Jordan Egbert each shot 81s to lead Sheldon.

Bryan Johnson shot a 79 and was the only player to break 80 to lead Marshfield to first place in a Midwestern League tournament at Shadow Hills Country Club.

Churchill's Reese Jones and Springfield's Kyle Barley tied for second place at 81 in the five-team tournament. Marshfield's 339 total gave the Pirates a two-stroke victory over North Eugene and an eight-shot edge over Churchill.

Marist had four players in the top seven to win the Westside Christian Invitational at Quail Valley Golf Course.

Brent Pollock shot a 73 to finish two shots behind medalist Alex Harding of Westside Christian and lead the Spartans, whose team score of 303 gave them a 14-shot victory over Catlin Gabel. Jack Pennington added a 74, and Corey Owen and Joey Souza each shot 78 for Marist.

Aaron Painter shot a 78 for medalist honors to lead Creswell to a victory at a five-team tournament at Emerald Valley Golf Club.

Aleks Gabrio added an 80 and Derrick Trappen had an 81 for the Bulldogs, who shot a 330 to beat McKenzie by 34 shots. Reedsport's Cody Savey also shot an 80 to tie Gabrio for second place.

Girls golf

Thurston's Haley Partridge shot an 82 to win medalist honors at a Midwestern League tournament at Shadow Hills Country Club.

Caroline Inglis finished second with an 85 for Churchill, which shot a 416 and beat Thurston by 32 shots for the team championship.

Marshfield's Brittany Gillmore finished third at 98 and was the only other player to break 100.

North Medford's Sunshine Powers was the only player to break 80 at Grants Pass Golf Club, shooting a 78 to lead the Black Tornado to the team win in a Southwest Conference tournament.

North Medford finished with a team score of 346 for a 58-stroke victory over Roseburg. South Eugene, led by Lindsey Warne's 92, was third at 425.
