Marist senior earns
Eagle Scout status
Alex Brockmann, a member of Troop 175 since May 1997, was honored Oct. 26 at an Eagle Court of Honor at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Eagle Scout is the highest honor awarded by the Boy Scouts.
Brockmann, a senior at Marist High School, is the son of Don Brockmann and Jody Brockmann of Eugene.
He earned 30 merit badges and the Arrow of Light, and has completed Eagle Quest leadership training. He participated in Eagle Cap wilderness and Beartooth Mountains adventure camps, attended the National Seabase Camp in the Florida Keys and participated at the 2001 National Jamboree.
His service project, completed for the Elmira School District, involved building benches for a conversation area at Elmira Elementary School.
The project required planning, soliciting donations and supervising 30 helpers for a total of 214 hours.
Willamette High musician earns monthly honor
Stephanie Baird, the daughter of Karen Sleege and Mark Baird, has been named the Performing Arts Student of the Month for November by Support Hultcenter Operations.
Baird currently plays with the Willamette High School wind ensemble, the school's jazz band and its marching band, as well as the American Music Institute and the Metropolitan Youth Symphony in Beaverton. She participated in a jazz workshop held in Monmouth on Aug. 16, which was filmed by Oregon Public Broadcasting.
SHO makes the monthly award to recognize and encourage participation in music, drama and dance in Lane County high schools.
