Thugs attack fire crew with fireworks.

FIREFIGHTERS who went to put out an unattended bonfire had to dive for cover as they came under attack by a gang of youths in Erdington who threw over 25 fireworks at them.

The five firefighters had to duck and dive for cover as they were targeted by the exploding fireworks which were landing just yards away. The crew had been called out to the bonfire between St Dominic's Road and Hawkesyard Road at around 7.45pm on Thursday.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "Fortunately no-one was hurt but it was a nasty experience for them to have to go through when they are just trying to do their job. They could have caused serious injury.

"This is something they should not have to experience doing their job and I would appeal for people to think about the consequences of their actions."
