Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) said Thrivent Financial sponsored a private event allowing WWP alumni to enjoy racing and baseball on September 5, 2015. The event began at the Autobahn Indoor Speedway in Jacksonville, Florida where 40 service members challenged NASCAR driver Michael McDowell on the track.
The event also served as an opportunity for veterans to network and learn more about other free WWP programs and services available to them. The WWP alumni program creates support through shared experiences and events like this help remind wounded veterans they are not alone.
In addition to the chance to race a NASCAR driver on the track, WWP Alumni participated in a meet-n-greet with McDowell and his #95 Sprint Cup car.
Later in the evening, more than 70 WWP Alumni and their guests watched the Jacksonville Suns take on the Mississippi Braves. McDowell threw out the first pitch of the game.
Thrivent Financial sponsors Michael McDowell and is also a longtime supporter of WWP and its mission to honor and empower Wounded Warriors. To date, Thrivent Financial has donated nearly USD700,000 to WWP through their Thrivent Choice Program that allows eligible members to recommend where charitable outreach funds are directed among enrolled charities.
?The mission of Wounded Warrior Project is to honor and empower Wounded Warriors. WWP's purpose is to raise awareness and to enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members, to help injured servicemen and women aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.
