Three Bay Area theaters put on docudrama by Obie winner.

Theater buffs in San Francisco, the East Bay, and the South Bay, take note: in a rare collaboration inspired--and required--by the casting demands of a 44-character play, three outstanding resident Bay Area theater companies are pooling their resources to present Execution of Justice, an important new work by Obie award-winning playwright Emily Mann. In 1982, San Francisco's Eureka Theatre commissioned Mann to produce a work basd on the tragic assassinations of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk by Dan White--and the controversial trial that followed.

Joining the Eureka to stage the resultant docudrama are the Berkeley Repertory and San Jose Repertory theaters. Eureka's Oskar Eustis and Anthony Taccone will direct. Actors will be drawn from all three companies.

Reviews were highly favorable following a premiere at the Humana New Play Festival in Louisville, Kentucky. Staged on its home turf, the play should be even better.

The Berkeley run is June 7 through July 7; tickets are $13 to $16. Write to Berkeley Repertory Company, 2025 Addison Ave., Berkeley 94704, or call (415) 845-4700. San Jose dates are July 11 through 28, and tickets range from $9 to $18. Performances will be in the Montogmery Theatre at S. Market and W. San Carlos streets; telephone is (408) 294-7572.
