Thomson Purchases Quantitative Analytics, Inc.

The Thomson Corp. (Stamford, CT) has signed an agreement to acquire privately held Quantitative Analytics, Inc. (QAI; Chicago, IL), a provider of financial database integration and analysis products for financial and investment firms as well as related financial researchers. No terms of the deal were given.

QAI software products are used by more than 200 of the world's largest investment firms for securities selection, modeling, back-testing, portfolio construction and trading strategy development. Its core product, MarketQA, integrates a function language with historical and daily-updated fundamental and pricing data. QAI also provides high-frequency data solutions via FasTick and FasTick RT, high-compression financial data capture, storage and analysis tools. WebQA, a new product currently under development, is a web-based custom report generator that accesses the MarketQA databases.

Thomson Financiala executive Suresh Kavan said that QAI "has established itself as the leading provider of multi-class, high-end analytics." The deal will "immediately position Thomson Financial at the forefront of the solutions space for investment managers."
