This week we test bronzers...

Byline: Liz Lamb

Bobbi Brown Illuminating Bronzing Powder, pounds 21.53.

This gives a light coverage so that you can build up the colour. It also comes in six different shades which is brilliant for matching to your skin tone. 8/10 Elizabeth Arden Pure Finish Mineral Bronzing Powder, pounds 22.

As part of their first mineral bronzing collection, it comes in a mirror compact so you can apply it on the move. This powder gave me a lovely sun-kissed glow and felt gorgeous on my skin. Lasted all day too. 9/10 Sisley Sun Glow Pressed Powder, pounds 59.50.

This is a bronzer designed for fairer skins and a more subtle glow. It's pricier than most but is worth the extra pennies. It's super soft, subtle and lasts for hours. Also comes in a sleek gold compact with a brush. 10/10 Prescriptives Sunsheen Bronzing Powder, pounds 23.

This is one of the most innovative bronzing powders around. It comes as a dual-sided compact with a dark shade for defining cheeks and eyes while the lighter shade is for highlighting all over. 9/10

Urban Decay Baked Bronzer, pounds 14.

You can always rely on Urban Decay for originality. This bronzer starts as dough and is then cooked in a tiny terracotta dish for hours. The result is an unstreaky bronzer that can be used wet or dry. Cheeks, eyes and even lips can benefit from a gold-dipped glow. Fantastic, I loved it! 9/10 Revlon Bronzer, pounds 7.37.

It''s quite a small compact so it might not last as long but it comes with a handy pop-up mirror and a small brush.

Available in two shades, sunkissed and natural, the former gave quite a dark colour. Try applying it with a larger brush as it works much better. 7/10 For a selection of credit-crunching bronzers see next week's column
