This story ballet is no fairy tale.

U.S. TOUR It takes guts to create a ballet based on Tennessee Williams' iconic play A Streetcar Named Desire. But Annabelle Lopez Ochoa's became an instant hit at the Scottish Ballet when it premiered in 2012. To create contrast between the main character Blanche DuBois and her New Orleans surroundings, Ochoa gave her a vocabulary of pure ballet and the other characters more contemporary steps. With direction by Nancy Meckler and jazz-inspired music by Peter Salem, the award-winning work has been heralded in the UK press as "heartbreakingly beautiful" and "incredibly dynamic." Streetcar visits the Spoleto Festival USA in South Carolina, as well as Chicago, San Antonio, Houston, Pittsburgh and Washington, DC. May 7-30.
