This photo of starlings' acrobatics is top-flight material.

A HYPNOTISING cloud of starlings captured above Carmarthen at dusk has won one of the top prizes at the landscape photographer of the year awards.

The picture was taken by Nigel McCall in the urban view category of the annual Take a View showcase ceremony.

With a total prize fund worth PS20,000, plus an eight-week exhibition at the National Theatre and the publication of a full colour book of best entries, Take a View has become a desirable annual competition for photographers of all ages.

Vast flocks of starlings, known as murmurations, are one of nature's most impressive winter highlights.

Nigel's starlings can be seen alongside other successful entries on display at the National Theatre in London from December 7.
