This late night medicinal tonic's got a little kick ...

I TAKE a bottle of tonic water to bed every night in the hope it will stop me suffering leg cramps.

So far, the results have been positive. David Mann (74 and 3/4) from Meltham said he went to his doctor for a check up several years ago and came home with medications to take before sleep: Bendroflumethiazide, Ramipril and Simvastatin.

He said: "Water to accompany the taking of these NHS favourites proved to be a bit bland but, mentioning it to friends, the alternative appeared to be tonic water. It has also got added benefits, as you mentioned: leg cramps have been less than I would have anticipated since taking the tonic."

There has been only one problem. "I have on several occasions inadvertently taken my nightcap G and T to bed with me and incurred the wrath of the 'other half ' when she found out," he added.

Maybe the answer is to take two G and Ts to bed, David. One for each of you.
