Don't get excited.

Home Depot is not coming to Arkansas anytime soon.

"It will probably be a number of years," says a company spokesman.

The 155 stores-and-growing Atlanta-based chain has enough on its plate already.

That is probably good news for National Home Center, the Springdale-based building and home supply store.

Some think Home Depot might come to the state through an acquisition of National Home Center, although that's not the company's usual procedure.

Home Depot would provide stiff competition for the local guys, who ranked 35th among the Arkansas Business Top 50 private companies with 1990 sales of $68 million.
