Benefit payments will be made earlier over the festive period, giving pensioners and families inReadinga little more financial flexibility in the run-up toChristmas.

It's good news for those receiving government tax credits, universal credit, pensions and child benefits as payments expected after Christmas will now be made before Monday, December 25.

Parents who are expecting to get their child benefit on December 25, 26 or 27 will get their money on Friday, December 22.

Tax credits due on Wednesday, December 27 will now be paid on Friday, December 22 as well.

The three bank holidays over the festive period, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day affect the payment date,report Gazette Live.

If a payment is due on a bank holiday, it will usually be paid the day before. Factor in the weekend and that's why some payments will be landing in claimants' accounts up to five days early.

Due date - December 28 (now paid on Wednesday, December 27)

Due date - Monday, January 1 (now paid on Friday, December 29)

Due date - Tuesday, January 2 (now paid on Friday, December 29)

Due date - Wednesday, January 3 (now paid on Monday, January 2)

Due date - Monday, December 25 (now paid on Friday, December 22)

Due date - Tuesday, December 26 (now paid on Friday, December 22)

Due date - Wednesday, December 27 (now paid on Friday, December 22)

Due date - Monday, January 1 (now paid on Friday, December 29)

Due date - Tuesday, January 2 (now paid on Friday, December 29 in Scotland only)
