This is my dream move: Giants signing Lunt.

HUDDERSFIELD Giants have signed Workington Town hooker Shaun Lunt on a three-year Super League contract.

The 21-year-old hooker was the National League Young Player of the Year in 2006 and 2007 and has joined for an undisclosed fee.

During his time in his native Cumbria, his strike rate was a superb 57 tries in just 73 appearances, and Giants managing director Richard Thewlis believes they have recruited a player with immense potential.

"Our club has followed Shaun's progress for a number of years and he is very highly rated," he said.

"He wanted a full time environment and we are happy to provide him with an opportunity.

"At this stage he is behind the mark in terms of players of a similar age who have been full time since 16, yet he has the advantage of playing senior rugby for longer, so it will be interesting to see how he goes."

Lunt is aware he faces a tough task to make an instant impression, but he is happy to bide his time.

"At this stage, it's just a case of getting my head down, working hard and biding my time to see what happens," said Lunt.

"I know there are a lot of players ahead of me in the pecking order here, but joining Huddersfield is still a dream move for me."
