Firm in newly-planted fruit trees and bushes after frost.

Spike and scarify lawns to improve surface drainage and remove thatch.

Repot houseplants and give them a week in a warm, sunny spot to recover.

Sow hardy annuals in vacant spaces in beds and borders.

Sprinkle rose fertiliser around rose bushes and lightly fork it into the soil.

Prune spring-flowering shrubs like forsythia immediately after they have bloomed to encourage new growth to flower next year.

Plant summer hanging baskets and windowboxes but keep under cover until all danger of frost has passed.
