Third of homes in the Net.

SURFING the Internet is now possible from a third of all UK homes, according to a survey.

Up to 8.6 million homes are now set up for people to tap into the World Wide Web, a four-fold increase on two years ago.

Since January this year, 23 million adults have surfed the Internet, according to the quarterly Family Expenditure Survey.

Of the 71,000 households taking part in the October to December survey, published yesterday, 10 per cent of adults who used the Internet did so exclusively for work.
