Third judge pulls out of seer trial.

THE SEXUAL harassment case against Raghaveshwara Bharati Swami, pontiff of the Sri Ramachandrapura Math in Shimoga district, has taken a curious turn with a third judge of the Karnataka High Court recusing himself from the trial.

The exact reason why the judge, Justice N. Kumar, recused himself from the case is not known.

Earlier this month, Justice Ram Mohan Reddy, who was part of the division bench of the HC hearing the bail plea of the seer, had recused himself from the case. Prior to that, on November 13, 2014, Justice K. N. Phaneendra had recused himself from the case after the victim wrote a letter to the President of India against him.

With Justice Kumar stepping off the case, Karnataka High Court Chief Justice D. H. Waghela will have to form a new division bench to hear the petition of the seer, who has prayed for the stay of criminal proceedings against him.

The seer has been accused of sexual assault by a former disciple.
