Thinking Machines aligns with MRJ Technology Solutions.

BEDFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 25, 1996--

Darwin Data Mining Software will be integrated into solutions for

federal and commercial clients.

Thinking Machines Corporation, a leading provider of high-end data mining solutions, today announced a strategic business partnership with MRJ Technology Solutions. MRJ, who provides information system solutions to the federal government and commercial users, will be licensed to resell Darwin, Thinking Machines' open and scalable data mining solution, for a variety of high technology consulting and implementation projects.

"Because Darwin is both scalable and open, it is an ideal data mining solution for MRJ's business," said Alan L. Codkind, Thinking Machines' vice president of business development and marketing. "We are extremely happy that we will be able to help MRJ deliver the benefits of data mining to their federal and commercial customers."

MRJ Technology Solutions offers a variety of high-tech solutions that take advantage of the company's expertise in networking, data mining and visualization. Solutions cover a wide range of applications, ranging from mechanical structural analysis, marine systems analysis and decision-support systems to law enforcement, enterprise-wide telecommunications and precision marketing support. In addition to serving the federal government, the military, NASA and other federal agencies, MRJ serves a broad base of commercial clients in such areas as financial services, healthcare, telecommunications and information services.

"Darwin is a powerful addition to our portfolio of high-tech capabilities," said Scott Miller, director of high performance computing at MRJ. "With it, we will be able to offer our federal and commercial clients the ability to maximize the use of their databases, some of which rank among the largest in the world."

Darwin is a scalable suite of data mining software that enables businesses to analyze huge databases and, in turn, discover new patterns, extract hidden information and predict future trends. In order to do this, Darwin runs on some of the world's fastest, most powerful, and most open computing platforms, including symmetric multiprocessors and cluster configurations. With Darwin and the hardware platform of their choice, banks, credit card companies, insurance companies, health care providers and other large corporations can uncover vital information previously undetected because of the sheer size and complexity of the database.

MRJ Technology Solutions, founded in 1978, is a private, employee-owned firm based in Fairfax, VA. The company is focused on acquiring and implementing a variety of sophisticated technologies, including data mining, massively parallel processing, virtual reality and visualization. MRJ has a long history of solving the most difficult technical problems in their fields. Examples of successful projects include the structural analysis of sea-based oil drilling platforms, vibration analysis and controls design for spacecraft, design and instrumentation for the Alaskan oil pipeline, support for as many as 25,000 on-line global systems users, and supercomputing support for NASA's Ames Research Center.

Founded in 1983, Thinking Machines Corporation revolutionized high-performance computing with its parallel processing technology. Today, Thinking Machines produces, markets and sells data mining and knowledge discovery software and services. With offices worldwide, Thinking Machines is headquartered in Bedford, Massachusetts, USA.
