Think-tank warns of 4x4 risk.

WARNINGS should be placed on all new four-wheel drive vehicles and their advertising to combat their health and environmental impact, campaigners have urged.

The New Economics Foundation said such a move would help to change personal behaviour.

The think-tank says 4x4s are dispro- portion ately responsible for carbon dioxide emissions, other air pollutants and traffic fatalities and injuries.

But their use is increasing. In London they already account for one in seven of all new car sales and the percentage is rising.

They account for one in four cars sold in the United States.
