Thieving post boss jailed.

A SUB-POSTMISTRESS has been caged for nine months for stealing more than pounds 34,000 after falling into debt.

Post Office officials ordered hapless Angela Marshall to pay half of pounds 14,000 that was stolen in an armed raid in May 2009, because the safe and security door had been left open when the robbers struck.

The demand plunged the 49-year-old into debt and she plundered pounds 34,188 from the tills at Tean Post Office, Staffordshire, over a six month period.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard the crime came to light after a Post Office audit.

A Post Office spokesman said: "We have a zero tolerance approach to dishonesty. "We always seek to prosecute the tiny minority of people who abuse their position of trust."
