Thieves drill into parking meters.

TWO men drilled into city centre parking meters to try to steal the cash boxes inside.

Officers from GMP's city centre team seized tools and an Audi A6 after a series of break-ins on Friday, March 9. Losif Ursu and Mihai Rujac were sentenced at Manchester magistrates court after pleading guilty to attempted theft from a meter or automatic machine.

Ursu, 32, of Redmead Road, Hayes, London, was sentenced to eight weeks in prison and fined PS450.

Rujac, 36, also of Redmead Road, Hayes, London, was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison and fined PS450.

They were both disqualified from driving for 12 months.

GMP City Centre tweeted about the incident, saying: "We seized tools and Audi A6 which has been destroyed."
