Thief jailed after targeting hospitals during stealing spree.

A MAN has been jailed after a stealing spree, which included thieving from two hospitals.

Aaron Paul Williams, 22, admitted four counts of theft, criminal damage and possessing a class A drug when he appeared before magistrates.

He was sent to Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court for sentence where Laurence Jones, prosecuting, told the court that Williams had stolen alcohol and clothing from shops in Beddau and Aberdare, and had stolen two rucksacks from the Royal Glamorgan Hospital where he had been taken after a suspected overdose.

The previous day he had been a patient at Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil, and had stolen a DVD player. He also caused damage to doors at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital and was also found in possession of a heroin substitute.

Clare Fear, defending Williams, said substance misuse had been a "very common factor" in his life. Williams, of Dan y Rhiw, Cwmaman, Aberdare, was jailed for a total of 14 months. He was also ordered to pay a PS100 victim surcharge.
