Thermo makes second Indian acquisition.

Waltham, MA 6/2/08--Thermo Fisher Scientific has acquired Chemito Technologies' Analytical Technologies and Environment Instrumentation divisions, which together have approximately $10 million in annual revenues. Headquartered in Mumbai, India, Chemito is the country's largest supplier of life science instruments and environmental monitoring applications, according to Thermo. The company also manufactures analytical instruments, including GCs and atomic absorption and UV/visible spectroscopy systems. "Chemito gives its manufacturing capabilities in India for analytical instrumentation, which, combined with our overall product portfolio, will allow ns to create tailored workflow solutions for our customers in the region," stated Marlin E. Dekkers, president and CEO of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Founded in 1961 as Toshniwal Instruments, Chemito began manufacturing GCs in 1969. In 1993, it introduced an HPLC. According to Chemito's website, the company has 19 customer support centers in India and exports to 25 countries. Last year, Thermo acquired the Indian firm Qualigens Fine Chemicals (see IBO 7/31/07).
